Nokia E60 Review

The Nokia E60 is a good looking traditional candybar business phone without a camera. The Nokia E60 is smaller and cheaper than previous Nokia business phones. The E60 works in Europe, Africa, Asia-Pacific, North America, and South America.

E60 Key Features

- Symbian OS v9.1, Series 60 3rd Edition
- 64 MB internal memory
- WLAN (WiFi) and Internet call over WLAN
- 3G (UMTS)
- Bluetooth, Infrared and USB support
- EGSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900 and WCDMA (3GPP Release 99) networks in Europe, Africa, Asia-Pacific, North America, and South America

The E60 is a solid phone and has no gaps between parts. The phone has a high-resolution color display (TFT 16 million, 352 x 408 pixels) and support (read, editing and creating new files) for Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. The E60 has the new Nokia web browser and a RSS reader pre installed. Connections include GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, UMTS, PTT, Bluetooth (1.2), IrDa and USB.

Bottom Line

I like the look and feel of the E60. It's a solid phone and has no gaps between parts. If you have driven a German car you know what I mean (American cars are also good :-). I´m no big fan of slim or plastic phones because I´m afraid I might brake them. With the E60 I didn´t have to worry about that. The buttons can be pressed without problems and usability is good. The five-way scroll also worked well and better than on some previous Nokia's.

The History of the Nokia Tune

You can find a lot of writings about ringtones, the ringtone history and stories about the famous Nokia Tune. Here´s the history of the Nokia Tune.

It all started in the year 1993 and with the launch of Nokia's 2100 series. The new Nokia 2100 phones were more advanced than previous Nokia's and had more than 20 pre installed ringtones. Anssi Vanjoki (today Nokia's Executive Vice President and General Manager of Multimedia) suggested that one of the pre installed ringtones could be Nokia's own ringtone. His proposal for the so called Nokia tune was Francisco Tárrega's (1852-1909) "Gran Vals". The Gran Vals was also at that time used on Nokia TV-commercials.

Anssi Vanjoki gave the notes of the Gran Vals to Lauri Kivinen (Corporate Communications) and tried to sell the idea of a Nokia Tune to him. At first Kivinen thought it quite unnessecary for a phone to have several ringtones. Hadn´t people been doing just fine with one ringtone? Despite skepticism things were developed furher in Oulu, Finland, where Nokia ringtones were developed.

In 1994, the Nokia 2100 series phones were launched and the Nokia tune could bee heard all over the world. The Nokia 2100 series was a success story, planning to sell 400 000, but sold 20 million!

People uses cell phone to do all kinds of interesting thing such as sending emails to their friends, listening to mp3s while on the move, taking photos and sharing them with their friends and even watching movies. All these activies however, will eat up a lot of the cell phone battery in very short span of time.

Mobile Phones are Tool for Fashion Statement

For many people, mobile phones are an essential tool of business used for fast communication. It is a necessity, just like a wrist watch.

But for far too many, it is not just a tool of communication it is also an important way of conveying a statement about their personality.

Younger users find it indispensable tool that enables them to chat with friends as well as sending and receiving text messages. Since their interests are often in music, companies have responded by offering them with phones that features like radio, polyphonic ring tones and games etc. This has filled the need of owning a phone and a music player on the move. And this segment of the mobile phone users have fell head over heals with these devices - asking them almost iconic in their view point.

The improved quality of these features is firmly establishing mobile phones in the 'never loose sight of these devices - ever' category for the young consumers.

Then companies have gone a little further. Since these consumers are also conscious of their looks, the mobile phones also offer them a choice of colour, size, ring tones and so on. In short, companies have positioned themselves to offer these consumers fashion accessories. The primary function of these phones remain the same: talk to anyone with a phone from almost anywhere, with added benefits of life style choices: music, camera, games. In short they offer an 'opportunity to nurture 'self image'.

Many consumers have been converted so much that many feel that they are beginning to identify their personality and individuality with the type of phone or model they carry. Just as many plan their wardrobe for the season ahead, they also accessorize their mobile phone with accessories.

Is this a healthy trend? Well this is for sociologists to decide. Companies are merely responding to the market place. Consumers are being offered an increasing choice of handsets as well as the price plans according to their needs. The choice is so varied that in UK alone, more than 20,000 offers are available to consumers at any one time – all originating from 7 mainstream phone companies and offered via various sales channels.

This bewildering choice of phones and the associated plans offer a perfect fit for your lifestyle – whatever your style. But making a choice is no easy task. This can involve sifting through wads of catalogues, browsing countless websites in every corner of internet – all this to compare the ins and outs of every mobile phone deal available in UK.

But there is a website - probably one of the best comparison sites dedicated to mobile phones, called TopMobiles4u.com. It does not sell any phone or calling plans – it just compares them. It conducts a fast search through almost every deal available in UK according to your criteria. I conducted a search of 20,000 deals and got results in less than 20 seconds.

How to Buy a Camera Cell Phone | Your First Camera Phone

Phone manufacturers are making the most of the growing popularity of the camera phone market. Profits for companies such as Nokia, Siemens, Motorola are steadily increasing and have the intensified the competition to make better models of the original camera cell phones. Carriers will often give away a great camera cell phone if you sign a cell phone service agreement.

Camera Cell Phone Benefits:

Even though the camera cell phone can be considered a luxury item, there are many benefits to owning this mobile communication device that can serve a dual purpose. Snapping pictures of people, places and things has never been easier. This is a great way to keep in touch with family and friends who live far away. With a camera cell phone, you are never without a camera and can snap that "once in a lifetime" shot with ease. The pictures you take can easily be uploaded to your personal computer. Some of the newest camera cell phone models have high resolution photos, red eye reduction and zoom options that rival a digital camera. Photo quality is largely dependent on the type of camera phone you purchase, but is generally an excellent investment.

Many camera cell phones can act as a mini camcorder as well as taking pictures. Basic camera phones will usually make a 30 second movie. You may have the option to upload the movie clip to your PC and transfer to the Internet. Some camera phones allow you to simply email the clip directly family and friends. This is the perfect feature for special occasions or moments when you do not have access to a regular camera.

Camera Cell Phone Disadvantages:

Although camera cell phones are wonderful devices, there are a few distinct disadvantages to owning a camera phone over a regular cell phone. If you have to purchase your camera phone, the cost is often more than a regular cell phone. Be aware that sending photos can quickly become expensive. Every carrier has their own rates for sending photos and it can be quite costly.

Depending on the model of camera cell phone you choose, the picture quality may not be what you would like. Learning how to focus the lens on a camera phone can be quite challenging and may result in many blurry pictures before you learn the technique. Should you drop the camera phone and crack or break the lens, it can be costly to have it repaired. Check with the manufacturer before you make your purchase because some models can not be repaired at all. A broken camera lens will result in a new phone purchase.

If you are planning to buy a camera cell phone, you should budget a bit of extra cash for additional insurance. Insurance on your camera phone can save you some expensive repairs or replacement of your phone in case if is lost or stolen. The small size of most camera phones and cell phones today makes an ideal target for a pick pocket or purse snatcher.

If you are new to the mobile world, compare options and cell phone promotions offered by carrier companies such as Cingular, T-Mobile or Verizon. Most companies offer free camera cell phones if you sign a cell phone service agreement. Your free camera phone probably won't be the the best they have to offer, but will be good enough for you to get accustomed to using a camera phone. After a 6 month membership, you may be able to upgrade or trade in your current camera phone for a better model. Check for this option before you sign your cell phone service agreement.

The camera cell phone is the most popular type of cell phone on today’s market. The convenience of having a camera at your fingertips can be fun and inexpensive if you don't abuse your carrier rates for sending pictures. The camera cell phone is a handy tool for party or fun pictures. As long as you don't expect professional level photography from your camera phone, you should enjoy having a camera handy for all those great photo opportunities.

Choosing a Cell Phone Plan for Your Child

If you are the parent of a teen or a pre-teen, chances are you have been faced with this question: Should I allow my child to have a cell phone? If you've already determined that cell phone ownership would be a wise idea for your son or daughter, the next question you'll confront is: Which cell phone plan would be best for the younger member or members of the family?

As you might expect, there are a number of factors to consider when selecting cell phone service for your child:

A Lone-Ranger Plan. This stand-alone plan allows your teen to have his or her own private cell phone account. For the most part, that means keeping usage and per-minute fees under control. Your teen will talk less-and you will save more money in the long run.

The Add-On. With this type of plan, phone service for your child is added onto your own cell phone account. This means that you'll need to share minutes with your child-along with sharing the responsibility of phone ownership.

The Pre-Paid Version. With this plan, you'll pay for your child's cell phone minutes in advance. When the minutes have been used up, the service ends. While this may be the most economical option, it can also be the most frustrating-especially if your teen loses service during an emergency or another inopportune time.

A Local Unlimited Program. If your teen will be making only local calls, this plan may be your best bet, since local calling minutes are unlimited. However, your teen will have to pay costly long-distance fees with this type of plan.

Making Your Decision

Talk with your teenager about how the cell phone will be used. If you both agree that your child will primarily be calling local friends and relatives, you'll probably want to opt for a local unlimited plan. If you feel that your teen is not yet responsible enough to keep track of minutes, a prepaid program may be the most appropriate choice.

Also, be sure to do some comparison shopping before making your final choice. This means comparing policies involving anytime minutes, weekend minutes, general monthly charges, long distance fees, and peak minutes. You may also need to ask detailed questions, such as what the charges for text messages are; what the fees for Internet access might be: and whether you can alter the plan during the time when the contract is in force.

In addition, you may want to talk to other parents about their experiences with various cell phone plans. If you find a number of couples complaining about a particular provider, you may want to take your business elsewhere. After all, you don't want your teen to be stranded on the highway with a cell phone that keeps flashing a "no service" warning.

Choosing Cell Phone Plans

Family Cell Phone Plan

If you need to stay in touch with your loved ones, you should select family cell phone plan that:

- Allows you to share minutes with your spouse and/or kids.

- Provides a monthly bill listing charges for each line. This will help you identify how many minutes your family needs every month and the time of day members place calls.

- Is regional or local. The majority of families do not need a national plan.

- Offers bulk text messaging and unlimited night and weekend minutes for chatty teens.

Student Cell Phone Plan

When choosing between various student cell phone plans, select a plan that:

1. Includes plenty of “anytime” or night and weekend minutes.

2. Offers free calling among friends in the same network.

3. Includes you in your parents’ family plan.

4. Offers wireless data services.

Business Cell Phone Plan

To find a good business cell phone plan follow these three steps.

1. Determine the cell phone coverage you will need. You must figure out where you are going to be using your cell phone. Is your business located in the city or in the country? Do you travel aboard?

If your work in the city, you can use a GSM, CDMA or TDMA phone. However, if your work is in the country or remote areas, you should choose a CDMA or TDMA phone. If you plan to use your business cell phone while overseas, GSM is the communications standard used outside of North America.

Anti-Social Mobiles

Traveling with any type of public transportation vehicle today in a metropolitan city, one could easily assert that the common mobile use has embraced different societies and penetrated the communication practices of people of all ages. Answering a sleek mobile phone that rings, by loudly reproducing a lesser quality version of the latest music hit, while ridding a packed bus or a crowded train carriage, is considered to be common practice. At the same time, playing games with your cell phone, or calling family or friends to let them know where you are and what you will be doing next, needs no justification as to whether it might be viewed as a token of responsibility or a mechanical act of boredom. Given the fact that mobile telephony has took by storm various publics in almost every continent, finding the fine line between living a mobile-saturated life and using your mobile as a convenience tool has become the subject of colorful debates.

According to researchers, citizens of the US, Finland, Japan, Germany, Italy and the UK have become the pioneers in exploring different technological developments in relation to their everyday tasks. Surfing through the Internet over a mobile phone while ridding the metro, or answering phone calls and sending e-mails while ordering the morning’s coffee, are examples of scenes almost everyone has witnessed at some point or another. However, this new type of social network, mastered by the latest mobile technologies, does not necessarily bring people together according to some critics. People reach for their cell phones in an effort to connect with others, but the mere notion of being isolated from the rest of the world in order to reach someone on the other end of a telephone line, with whom you do not necessarily interact, contradicts the whole idea of “closeness” or “contact.” But numbers speak otherwise, as the mobile phone ownership has tremendously increased over the last two decades.

Unfortunately, as Kofi Annan’s 2000 speech to the Australian Press Club pointed out, “half of the world’s population has never made of received a phone call.” Digital divide, the technological gap the exists between the developed and developing countries of the world, has become the central point for sociologists, developers and scientists, who now speak of a digitally misplaced 50 percent that drifts further and further away from the rest of the technology-savvy half.

But, even in the midst of the heavy mobile telephony users, isolation and annoyance have recently come to destroy what some would like to translate as a new type of group dynamic. The telecom industry, powered by the new technologies that emerge, targets contemporary mobile phone customers to form an extremely technology dependent crowd. Smaller in size, carrying cameras and having wireless internet capabilities, today’s mobile phones are packed with useful or totally useless features. Only the future will determine which of those can in fact bring people together or further push forward the anti-social factor.

Mobisodes for Your Mobile Phone

Have you heard the new term Mobisodes? What is a Mobisode? Well, it is a mini television episode that is specially made for a mobile phone user. More and more mobile phones these days are coming with video displays and they are able to surf the Internet and have decent download speeds.

Enough in fact to prompt entrepreneurial investors, high-tech companies and venture capitalists to design more features. The Mobisode is born out of the desire of the customer to have more video features. Who created the term Mobisodes? FOX News did as they see a venue here to deliver news sound and video bytes to mobile phone users.

Many neurologists and research centers that use fMRI technologies to study the brain, believe this might also give the user peaked enhanced brain waves or a temporary boost. This is because a mini-episode will in fact stimulate the visual part of the brain.

Does this mean your mobile phone will replace your television set? Perhaps not now, but with the new iPod video players and Microsofts Zune in the future along with these Mobisodes for mobile phones, it appears that entrepreneurs may find a way to take some market share from TV and make some real money. Please consider all this in 2006.

Can Your Teen Be Trusted With A Cell Phone?

Adolescence can be a time for tremendous growth for a young man or a young woman, particularly when it comes to taking on responsibility. And one responsibility that can involve a steep learning curve is cell phone use. Parenting experts now say that children as young as 13 should be disciplined enough to keep track of their cell phone use.

While some individuals view cell phones as a luxury for teenagers, others see them as necessities in this high-tech age. Cell phones allow parents to keep tabs on their teens at a time when their sons and daughters may be experimenting with their new-found independence. It is vitally important, then, that teens know how to handle a cell phone responsibly.

Cell phones can be helpful in teaching teens the virtue of time management. If they have a plan with a limited number of free minutes during the day, they'll need to learn how to use their "talk time" wisely. In addition, if they share a plan with you, they'll also need to learn how to show respect to others.

Needless to say, a teen with a cell phone will also need to learn effective money management techniques. While cell phones can be a cost-efficient way to place calls, they can also be quite expensive, depending on when and how they're used. Generally speaking, parenting experts recommend that mothers and fathers pay for basic service for their teens, but require their sons and daughters to pay for any add-ons, such as special ring tones and text messaging features.

Moreover, if the teen actually ends up breaking or losing the phone, he or she should have to pay for a replacement. In this way, parents can teach their teens to be as responsible as possible with their cell phone use. Teens can gain a feeling of independence, while they can also learn that consequences await them if they fail to act responsibly.

But before a teenager even has a cell phone in hand, it's important that parents inform him or her of all their expectations regarding cell phone use. Parents should also be willing to set limits-otherwise, they may find that their teen is constantly talking on the cell. Unless such limits are in place, parents could find themselves facing some unexpected bills.

If necessary, write down the "house rules" regarding cell phone use. That way, you'll be minimizing any confusion, and your children will not be able to claim that they didn't know what was expected of them. The rules should then be posted on a place where they are clearly visible at all times, such as the refrigerator door.

Teens should also be aware of the fact that, if they fail to answer calls from their parents, they could find their cell phone privileges taken away. At first, such rules may seem unnecessarily harsh, but they can be quite helpful in helping to maintain family harmony over the long term. So, feel free to purchase a cell phone for your teen-and watch that teen mature into a responsible cell phone customer.

International Cellular Phone Service

International cellular phone services are ideal for business travelers. These phone services provide you a handset with multi-brand facility, a US-based phone number and multi-lingual instructions which can be used any where in the world. There are no boundaries or restrictions with these international cellular phone services. You will be able to stay connected anywhere in the world. Most international cellular phone services are affordable and are a great way to stay connected to your home and office.

You can receive an international cellular phone service in two ways. If you are an infrequent traveler currently using a US GSM service through a tri-band international phone, then you can use your current phone internationally by just updating your account for international roaming. This option is rather costly if you use your handset frequently on traveling. The second, and the most popular, option is renting an international cellular phone service and a phone.

Renting an international cellular phone service is easy. You can either purchase online or purchase directly by just filing a simple form. Then you will receive a handset with a US-based phone number and a shipping envelope for retuning the phone. You then have to pay the rent for the handset, either weekly or monthly, and a fee for the minutes used. When you no longer want the service, you can return the handset by simply putting it into the mailing envelop and sending it back. This option is chosen by most of the frequent travelers.

There are different types of international cellular phone service renting plans available. Most of these plans offer either GSM phones or global satellite connections. GSM phone rentals are the most sought-after option, as they work in over 220 countries. Many modern plans use a combination of digital, GSM and satellite technologies.

The main advantage of renting international cellular phone services is that they provide latest global telecommunication services without much investment. Other advantages involve cheap rate, worry-free travel, easy return policy, no voice delay or distortion, no need for buying telephones in unfamiliar territory. You can also purchase low-cost insurance for the handset. The main disadvantage of using rental international cellular phone services is that the handsets are usually of low quality. They may not carry advanced features.

Discount Cellular Phone Service

Discount cellular phone services are the offspring of high-level competition. These services offer handsets for discounted rate or for free. The minute charge and other monthly charges are lower than normal rates. Almost all cellular service providers offer discount cellular phone services.

Discount cellular phone services are mutually beneficial to customers and cellular phone companies. The customers enjoy free handsets and low call rates whereas cell phone companies make profit by providing outdated cell phones. Most of these services provide phones from major cell phone companies such as Audiovox, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson. Generally, services available through these plans are of good quality, but the handsets may not contain the latest features such as Bluetooth technology and video-on-demand.

There are different discount plans for different needs. Discount cellular phone service plans include personal, business, students and employee plans. When going for a discount cellular phone service, you have to consider packages containing phone accessories, low rate minute usage, low rate night and weekend minutes, and emergency use plans. You have to choose the right plan in accordance with your usage needs. Also make sure that the service provider has enough coverage in your area.

Most discount cellular phone services offer cheaper long distance rates. Lots of services also offer shared or family discount plans and multiple phones. Some plans include a limited amount of text messaging for a pre-determined extra monthly price, usually amounting to $5.

You can easily find a discount cellular phone service online. You could also select the phone and the features you want. Before you purchase a plan, properly understand the terms and conditions. Most service providers offer delivery in 2 to 4 days, depending on the shipping option chosen.

Discount cellular phone services are available usually on one or two year contracts. Most services require credit approval or deposits. AT&T, T-Mobile, Nextel, Cingular Wireless, Verizon Wireless, Sprint PCS, Nextel, T-Mobile, and Alltel are the most common discount cellular phone service providers.

Understanding Cell Phone Deals

There are many cell phone deals available in the market. One needs to have a proper and thorough understanding of these deals to take a proper advantage of them for their own needs.

The first thing is to understand the kind of deals. There are mainly two types; one is where an individual has to sign a year-long contract with a cell phone carrier for the service. What this entails is that after taking the connection one has a cell phone connection that operates on credit basis. This means that at the end of the month, a bill is sent to the user that he or she has to keep paying for the services to continue. Such a phone connection comes with cheaper call and SMS charges. Such a cell phone deal is ideal for people who travel a lot and use a lot of phone and SMS facility. However, for those who do not use their cell phone too often, this may end up being a bit expensive.
