The Truth Behind Free Cell Phone Stuff

Nothing is worse than taking advantage of children so I am very upset about the unethical marketing tactics of some cell phone accessories companies promoting "free cell phone stuff" in particular the ringtone industry. In a recent survey of myspace.com users the number one item purchased through links on their site is ringtones. I am sure many myspace users have seen the banner advertisements that allow you to catch the baby, shoot the frog, have Mike Tyson beat up George Bush etc. Great use of banner advertising as I have even found myself a few times trying to knock the stuffing out of our president. Once the random goals are accomplished you are redirected to a ringtone site that asks you for information regarding your cell phone. Most times after all required information is received the company will then send you a text message that will allow to download a free ringtone of your choice from the company's ringtone library. Seems cool huh? Wrong! What is barely disclosed (very small print) is the fact that once you accept this ringtone for download you have initiated a 1-2 year contract with the company to download a couple of ringtones a month for between 9.95-19.95/month on your cell phone bill. Since myspace's demographic consists of mostly 12-26 year olds this can be extremely confusing. With cells now becoming a part of everday life for most adolescents misleading advertisements promoting "free cell phone stuff" especially ringtones is enough to upset any family budget.
Another cost effective way to eliminate the cost of ringtones is ringtone maker software though it is not free users can create their own ringtones from any CD MP3 or audio file. This software is very user friendly and eliminates the need to ever purchase ringtones. With options like these available for free cell phone stuff one may ask the question: Why is the Ringtone industry so profitable? Well the answer is simple I can make a great sandwich but I still go to Subway. For those that are not on a budget or dont have the time dowloading ringtones is a great option, but for those that understand the value of do it yourself this software is a great option. In closing educated consumers beware the free in free cell phone stuff especially ringtones rarely means free if ever at all.
